This week was very short for me since I was not in school on Monday or Tuesday. When I got to robotics on Wednesday, I got right to work on the milling process. The first step was facing down to one inch. This was a pretty easy task that just took a couple of inputs to put in the mill. The next was one of the biggest operations, which was the adaptive toolpath. This would be used to cut out the pockets.

The other job was to finish all edges and corners to make them all smooth and rounded correctly. This operation was a lot shorter, only taking 4 minutes as opposed to the 40 minutes that the adaptive toolpath took.

The last steps were to chamfer all the edges and then finish it by drilling the holes. This is where MISTAKES were made. When changing from the spot drill for the chamfer to the drill bit for the holes, I forgot to adjust the offset for the different tools. Since the drill bit is about 3 inches longer than the spot drill was the machine tried moving it down quickly to get to the part, but instead just slammed the drill bit into it. This caused most of it to lodge into the hole and the rest just completely snapped.

As you can see, the drill bit is in multiple pieces. The flat part on the bottom of one was the bottom of the drill bit that flattened when it slammed into the part. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and hopefully this won't happen again.
